Centre Information



The Photonics Research Centre undertakes research in a number of areas of photonics, with a particular emphasis on optical fibre sensing. The Centre is located in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Dublin Institute of Technology.

PRC conducts research and technology development in the areas of

  • Fiber Optic Sensors and its Applications

  • Fiber Optic Systems for Sensing Applications

  • Smart Fiber Structures

  • Liquid crystal filters for sensing applications

  • Modelling of Optical Waveguides

  • Photonic Integrated Circuits

Professor Libo Yuan of Harbin Engineering University was awarded a DIT Adjunct Professorship by the President in recognition of his outstanding achievements in Photonics Research, his international standing and his contribution to research collaboration with the Photonics Research Centre (PRC) at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the DIT. Professor Libo Yuan is the Director of the Key Lab of In-Fibre Integrated Optics, Ministry of Education of China at the College of Science, Harbin Engineering University (HEU) in China.
